Stephanie EbdonSteph joined the agency in 2001, and ran the Paterson Marsh list selling rights both in the UK and in translation, before more recently developing her own list of authors. The Paterson Marsh foreign rights are now handled by the Marsh Agency rights team and Steph is a full-time UK agent and acting head of the UK department whilst Jessica Woollard is on maternity leave. Steph represents mainly non-fiction writing, both popular and academic, and is particularly interested in psychology, current affairs, popular science and, more generally, books about the way in which we live and interact with each other. She is also very happy to look at well written, engaging memoir and sensible, down to earth self-help. Amongst her authors writing for a general audience are Robert Rowland Smith, a philosopher turned management consultant who will be a name to watch, Shanida Nataraja, a neuroscientist exploring the effects of meditative practices on the brain, and Andrea Clifford-Poston, a child psychologist and parenting expert. On the more specialized side of Steph’s list are the acclaimed psychoanalyst Patrick Casement, the grammar expert John Seely, the education textbook author Peter Moss and the historian and Winner of the 2007 Richard E Neustadt Book Prize Hugh Brogan. Whilst the majority of Steph’s list is non-fiction, a look in her handbag would tell you that her own reading habits are broader than that and she is beginning to reflect that in her list of authors. Steph reads literary fiction, with the occasional foray into crime and thriller, and is looking for authors who can draw out the little moments that bind people together and explore what makes us tick.
